he governs land and sea;
支配著陸地與大海，
he wields a mighty scepter
行使著至高無上的王權(quán)，
o’er lesser powers that be;

but a mightier power and stronger,
然而還有更強大的力量，
man from his throne has hurled,
將人從寶座上掀起，
and the hand that rocks the cradle

She always leaned to watch for us .
她總在那兒把我們守望，
Anxious if we were late ,
我們晚歸會使她發(fā)慌，
In winter by the window ,
冬天里守在窗前
In summer by the gate ;
夏日里靠在門前。
And though we mocked her tenderly ,
我們曾善意地將她嘲弄
Who had such foonich care ,

The long way home would seem more safe ,

Because she waited there .
