ted:: hi, nobuaki! it's good to see you again.

nobuaki: yes, it's been a while. hey, you've gotten bigger since the last time i've seen you.

ted: yeah, ever since i got married i've been putting on weight. my wife's a good cook.

nobuaki: i know a lot of people who let themselves go after they get married. but don't blame your wife's good cooking. you need to start exercising again.

ted: i know i should. but after i come home from work i'm too tired to exercise. and i don't have any place to work out (體育鍛煉)any way.

nobuaki: have you thought about joining a health club?

ted: i have . but they are expensive. also, i have friends who go and seems like all they ever do is work out. i just don't have the time.

nobuaki: i'm a member at spa fitness and you'd be surprised at how inexpensive a year membership is. true, there are a few body-building fanatics (健美狂)down there, but most of the members are "normal" people who work out for about an hour just three times a week.

ted: sounds reasonable. i mean, you look skinny (瘦)enough.

nobuaki: well, to tell the truth, i haven't always been this lean. after i turned 30, i started putting on the pounds. i couldn't fit into my favorite jeans anymore. i was feeling fat and pudgy(肥胖). i didn't have any energy.

ted: that's how i feel. i mean, exercise sounds like something that is going to make me feel more tired.

nobuaki: that's the misconception that most people have with exercise. the funny thing is, once you start on a regular exercise program, you start feeling better immediately.

steve:: what's your favorite movie of all time?

  michelle: that's a good question? i don't know. maybe "forrrest gump"(《阿甘正傳》).

  steve: why "forrest gump"?

michelle: because i love tom hanks, and i thought it had a lot of clever tie-ins(聯(lián)系,關(guān)聯(lián)); it was like a photo album of the country during the last 30 years..

steve: that was a good show. okay. here's a little bit of movie trivia(小問題) for you: what movie is the top-grossing (票房收入最高的;毛利最高的)film of all time?

michelle: oh, that's easy. "jurassic park(〈侏羅紀(jì)公園〉)". it's the only film that has grossed over a billion dollars in history.

steve: that's true. but when a film's gross is adjusted for inflation, the highest-grossing film is "gone with the wind". okay, what director has 7 of the top 40 highest-grossing films of all time?

michelle: a piece of cake. steven spielberg. give me something that's challenging.

steve: okay. who said "go ahead, make my day!"?

  michelle: clint eastwood.

steve: all right. what was dustin hoffman's debut movie(第一部電影)?

  michelle: "the graduate".

steve: what year did it come out?

  michelle: i don't know. 1970?

  steve: wrong. 1968.

bart:: there's a new resurgence in binge drinking (聚眾飲酒作樂)among american college students.

lisa: yes, i've head about it. so what?.

bart: unfortunately, college women are gaining ground on (追上,接近,逼近...) men for the title of campus drunk.(校園酒鬼的稱號(hào))

lisa: really? drinking among college students has been going on for decades. why are women drinking more now?

bart: i don't know, but the percentage of college women drinking to get drunk has more than tripled over the past 15 years, says a new report from columbia university.

lisa: i guess that's really not that surprising. women are beginning to assert themselves more in every aspect of society.

bart: i know a lot of people are shrugging this off (對(duì)某事聽之任知,不予重視)as just a teenage rite of passage, but it's more serious than that. i read in usa today that alcohol is involved in 90% of all rapes, 80% of all vandalism (蓄意破壞公物或他人私有財(cái)產(chǎn)的行經(jīng))cases, 40% of all academic problems and 28% of all dropout (輟學(xué))problems.

lisa: i have to admit, that is shocking! i never realized that booze (酒,痛飲)was so connected with crime.

bart: what's even worse is that as many as 360,000 of today's undergraduates ultimately will die from alcohol-related causes - more than will get advanced degrees.

lisa: that's downright (徹底地,十分地))depressing. i'll bet that fraternities (大學(xué)男生聯(lián)誼會(huì))and sororities (大學(xué)女生聯(lián)誼會(huì))have a lot to do with that.

  英語相關(guān)口語對(duì)話:年齡

  A: How old is Keith?

  B: He's 21. How old is James?

A: He's a year older than Keith, but he looks younger.

  B: How's your father?

A: He's fine. He retired last week. It's a turning point in his life. Now he can

  relax and enjoy his retirement.

B: He can spend more time with his grandchilden.

A: Oh, I don't think he wants to. He wants to travel to several different countries

  around the world.

B: So, he wants to have a more active retirement. Good idea!

A: How do you want to spend your old age?

B: In the same way, probably.

  Intermediate

A: What's the life expectancy in your country?

B: I'm not sure, but probably about 75 years. How about in your country?

A: About 70, I think. This newspaper article talks about the problems of

an aging population. It's a problem that will soon affect most of the world.

B: I heard that the government might need to increase the retirement age,

because otherwise there will not be enough workers to support the young and the elderly.

A: Perhaps we need to have more babies! Tina gave birth to a baby boy yesterday.

B: Did she? That's great. However, if we have too many children, that will have a bad effect on the environment.

A: How's your son these days?

B: Oh, he's fine. Kids seem to grow up very quickly nowadays.

A: He'll be a teenager before you know it! Teenagers are often rebellious!

When do you think it is a good age to have a child?

  B: I had mine when I was 24. That's a little young.I'd suggest you wait until you

are in your late twenties, or even in your early thirties if you have a good career.

A: Yes, I think you're right. I'm thinking about having a child, but not just yet.

B: Is there a big generation gap between parents and their children in your country?

A: Yes, there is. Teenagers do not want to live traditonal lives. They want to go

out, have fun, and explore the world. They want to develop their own view of life. Parents usually try to discourage them, but they don’t often succeed.

B: Parents usually give their children more freedom in my country. Sometimes they give them too much freedom.

A: It's almost impossible to get the right balance. If you are too strict, kids might ignore you. If you are too lenient, they might go wild.

  英語相關(guān)口語對(duì)話:性格

  A: Do you like Barry?

B: No, not very much. He's too ambitious and dishonest.

A: I agree. I like his brother Paul. They are not alike.

B: Yes. They are completely different. Paul is very sociable and much more honest

  than his brother.

A: What kind of person do you consider yourself to be?

B: I think I'm polite, careful, relaxed and shy.

A: Oh, I don't think you're shy! You are always chatting with new people when we

  go to a party.

B: Well. Yes, but those people always start talking to me. I never talk to them first.

Perhaps I'm not as shy as I think. Anyway, you're certainly not shy!

A: You're right. I love going out and making new friends.

B: So, you'll be at my birthday party on Friday?

  A: Of course!
