whether的用法
whether的用法1：whether用作連詞,意思是“是否,是不是”,可引導(dǎo)名詞從句或動(dòng)詞不定式短語。
whether的用法2：whether還可引導(dǎo)讓步狀語從句,意思是“不管,無論”,從句中通常用一般現(xiàn)代時(shí)代替將來時(shí)。
whether的詞匯辨析
if，whether
這兩個(gè)連接詞均含“是否”之意。
if 作“是否”解時(shí)，多用于口語，引出賓語從句，不能直接跟or not連用。
whether 多用于書面語中，可與or或or not連用，除引出賓語從句外，還可引出主語從句、表語從句、同位語從句或與不定式連用。

whether與if用法區(qū)別
1.賓語從句是否定句時(shí),只用if,不用whether.
e.g.I wonder if it doesn’t rain.
2.用if 會(huì)引起誤解,就要用whether.
e.g.Please let me know whether you want to go.(此句如果把whether改成if,容易當(dāng)成條件 句理解)
3.習(xí)慣上賓語從句中的whether 與or not直接連用,就不能換成if;不直接連用時(shí),即構(gòu)成 whether ...or not的結(jié)構(gòu)時(shí),英語中只用whether;而美語中常用if.所以我們的教學(xué)中習(xí)慣上 采用whether...or not的說法.
e.g.I don’t know whether or not the report is true.
I don’t know whether the report is true or not.
4.介詞后的賓語從句要用whether引導(dǎo).
e.g.It depends on whether we have enough time.
5.whether 可與不定式連用,而if不與不定式直接連用.
e.g.They don’t know whether to go there.
6.whether 也可引導(dǎo)主語從句、表語從句、同位語從句,還可引導(dǎo)讓步狀語從句,以上均不能換成 if.
注意：引導(dǎo)主語從句時(shí),習(xí)慣上whether從句置于句首時(shí),whether不能換用if,如：
Whether you’ll gain knowledge successfully or not depends on how hard you will work.
你能否真正學(xué)到知識(shí),就看你努力的程度如何.
但當(dāng)采用形式主語It 將主語從句后置時(shí),用Whether 和 if 均可,如:
It’s not clear to me whether /if she likes the present.
7.引導(dǎo)條件從句時(shí),只能用if,而不能用whether.
e.g.Please come to see me if you have time.
